BDF was established in 1961. As an industry association of mid-sized companies, it comprises of 45 leading manufacturers of prefabricated timber buildings who are engaged nationwide. Thus, it represents nearly 100 percent of the prefabricated construction industry in Germany.

Main objective of the association is to increase the market share of prefabricated timber buildings. BDF sees itself as a mediator between manufacturers, customers and potential customers. It provides information for homebuilders and for the media.

BDF is a non-profit organisation that aims to improve product quality and innovations in timber house construction methods. The continuous development of prefabricated buildings including product quality, energy efficiency and building ecology is a major benefit for private homebuilders.
